
KUALA LUMPUR (Benama) -- Seiichi Sugano Shihan, a greatly revered Aikido teacher who had dedicated himself to teaching the Japanese art of self-defence globally, was among four instructors who are here to conduct a four-day International Aikido seminar.

President of the Malaysian Aikido Association Low Thian Seng said Sugano who comes to Malaysia once a year to conduct grading tests and award belts to Aikido exponents, was here to offer his expertise to local instructors here.
"He will also depart some of his knowledge to students and instructors when he is here. The principle of Aikido, a Japanese martial art known as "the Way of unifying (with) life energy" or as "the Way of harmonious spirit" is a non-competition martial art form.
"Its goal is to create an art that practitioners could use to defend themselves while also protecting their attacker from injury," Low told Bernama here today.
Low said the seminar held at the Olympic Council of Malaysia, attracted 250 participants from 11 countries.
