Karate : Alfamart to host Asia Pacific karate championship

After successfully hosting the Tangkas-Alfamart Badminton Junior Challenge in June, convenience store chain Alfamart is now turning its attention to karate-do.

Alfamart will host the first Asia Pacific Hayashi-ha Shito-ryu Kai Karate Championship and Kobudo Demonstration in Jakarta, the first international event held by a karate school in Indonesia.

Karate : Young karatekas win 12 medals in Busan

WITH Jamie Christine Lim showing the way with a golden double, young Filipino karatekas won 12 medals in the 6th Korea Open International Karatedo Championships recently in Busan.

Lim stamped her mark by dominating the kata and kumite events in the 13-age division, duplicating her golden double performance earlier this year in the 3rd Asian Koi Karate Championships in Kuala Lumpur.

MCM Bulletin Board : Satellite Centres To Unearth Sports Talents

PUTRAJAYA, July 25 (Bernama) -- The government will be establishing Satellite Sports Centres in schools in each state to unearth new talents right from the primary level under the 10th Malaysia Plan (10MP),said Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

Muhyiddin, who is also Education Minister, said the centres would also be responsible to expose athletes and coaches on developments in sports science, dietetics, sports medicine and sports research to produce world-class athletes.

MCM Bulletin Board : OCM finalise Asian Games selection list for Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR: The Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM) have approved 136 athletes under the Category B for the Guangzhou Asian Games in November.

But for four teams, the OCM have lowered the target under which they will be eligible for a refund of the expenses incurred.

The OCM secretary general, Datuk Sieh Kok Chi (pic), said yesterday that the selection committee had picked 31 of the 44 sports in which Malaysia will compete in the Games.

Karate : Jin Keat and Yoke Wai included in Asiad squad

PETALING JAYA: Experience counts when it comes to an Asian Games campaign, thus the surprise inclusion of Ku Jin Keat and Lim Yoke Wai, who are coming off a long layoff due to knee injuries.

Jin Keat and Yoke Wai, who were silver medallists at the previous Asiad in Doha in 2006, are among four male exponents selected for the Games in Guangzhou in November.
