SUKAN Olimpik Beijing sudah pun berlalu dan kini timbul pula suara-suara kurang menyenangkan mengenai prestasi atlit negara yang dilihat berpeluang merangkul pingat di temasya terbesar dunia tetapi terlepas begitu saja.

Ia lebih merujuk kepada penampilan buat pertama kali atlit taekwando negara, Che Chew Chan yang dilihat sengaja mensia-siakan peluang terhidang itu.

Bekas Presiden Cuba, Fidel Castro semalam mempertahankan atlet acara taekwondo negara ini yang diharamkan selama-lamanya dari sukan itu kerana menendang seorang pengadil sewaktu temasya Olimpik Beijing.

Castro dalam satu kolum Internet menyatakan, atlet tersebut, Angel Valodia Matos awal-awal lagi sudah berasa "marah" kerana seseorang cuba merasuah jurulatihnya.

TaeKwonDo : WTF Pushes to Adopt Electronic Protector System at 2012 London Olympic Games

As part of its ceaseless efforts to ensure fairer judging and refereeing, the World Taekwondo Federation will adopt an electronic protector system in the taekwondo competition at the 2012 London Olympic Games.

To do so, the WTF will set up an ad-hoc committee to deal with all the procedural and technical aspects regarding the use of electronic protectors. Prior to the London Olympics, the WTF plans to introduce the electronic protector system at the next WTF World Taekwondo Championships scheduled for October 2009 in Copenhagen, Denmark.

THE Sports Ministry will take into account all feedback from relevant parties before finalising any plan to adopt foreign athletes.

Sports Minister, Datuk Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the matter must be analysed comprehensively as it involves national pride.

"Discussions on this matter have not gone beyond the coffee table. Yes, the idea was brought to me verbally but it's only talk and decisions cannot be made from that," said Ismail Sabri yesterday.

The Youth and Sports Ministry will begin early a sports programme to win at least one gold medal for Malaysia at the 2012 Olympic Games in London.

Its minister Datuk Ismail Sabri Yaakob said among the sports to be given priority to realise that aim would be badminton, archery and cycling.
